When hearing, “I was betrayed”, the most common translation is that someone cheated on someone by having an affair. But that’s clearly not what happened to me.
This is my story on how I was betrayed and what I consider to be the ultimate betrayal.
To sum it up, I was placed under arrest, charged with several felony and misdemeanor crimes, I couldn’t see my son, I couldn’t go home, I was in the verge of losing my freedom and my career, not to mention that a friend is also in the crossroads of losing his career, all because of one women and her lies.
Why did she do it? It was all about child custody. My son is soon to be four years old. We had been married for nearly eight years and because our rocky marriage was coming to an end, she was preparing to build a case against me, which would give her sole custody of our son.
What did she do? Throughout our marriage, the discussion of getting a divorce came up often, but came extremely close on two occasions. Shortly after the second instance, which was about one year ago, she logged into my email account and sent an email to her email address with a threat that I would kill her and our son. She carefully sent the email and made sure to remove all traces from my account. I was never aware that such an email existed until everything began to unfold.
What happened next? On one Sunday I wanted to take my son to a family event and she, in not so many words, said that she wouldn’t allow it and I would regret taking him. She was far beyond being over protective and didn’t want me to do anything alone with my son. To avoid an argument and melodrama, I picked up my son and attempted to leave, while she followed behind in tears and crying out for help. I thought to myself what a crazy women.
A few hours later, while on our way to see my family, I was made aware that the police had contacted my family in regards to the safety of my son. My family’s response to them had been, “he is with his father, of course he is fine”. I was astonished to find out that she had involved the police. I called a friend who is in law enforcement to find out what had happened. My friend knew her personally and said he would call her to find out and let me know. He called back saying that she was hysterical and he was unable to have a normal conversation with her. He advised me to give her a call to let her know that our son is fine, let her know when I would be bringing him home, and ask her about the police report to determine the cause of the visit. I followed his instructions and placed a call to her.
When I returned home in the evening, her whole family was present. No one spoke to me, even while sitting in my living room they didn’t have the common courtesy of asking me what or if anything had happened (btw, this is the same family who supposedly sees me as their son and not their son-in-law, yeah right!). My assumption is that they believed whatever story she made up. Anyway, so no one spoke. After a few minutes, they left. I asked her about a police report, to which, she said, “there isn’t one”. She stated that a concerned neighbor called the police after seeing me leave with my son and her crying and that it was not her. After that, I went about my business while she played with our son and put him to bed. We didn’t speak much, but before going to bed she mentioned that she had an early doctor’s appointment and she offered to give me a wake up call in the morning (my cell phone had disappeared from the house about a week ago, which I used as an alarm clock).
The next morning, she woke me up in the morning and left the house. I didn’t see my son and assumed she had already placed him in the car. After what had happened, I wasn’t quite up for driving to work and decided to work from home. In the evening, I went to have dinner with my friend. During dinner I mentioned to him that there wasn’t a police report and maybe the whole incident was blown out of proportion. After I returned home, I played with my son, then we all went to bed.
The following morning I woke up to get ready for work (I used an old cell phone as my alarm clock). While I was getting ready, I noticed that she was laying with her eyes open. I had a strange feeling when I was about to leave, which made me come back and say goodbye to my son for a second time, even though he was sleeping. I stared at him for about a minute before leaving. When arriving home after work, while I was opening my mailbox a police officer came up to me and served me with a restraining order. He said I needed to leave immediately or I will be arrested. I was in shock for a minute. Not knowing what to do, I called my friend (same friend).
After arriving at my friends place, we went over the restraining order document, which specified the reasons for awarding the order, and were at aw while we were reading it. Both of our jaws had dropped straight to the floor. It stated that the morning after I returned home with our son, I woke her up early morning, dragged her out of bed by her hair, made her get on her hands and knees, put a towel in her mouth, beat her with a belt and threatened to kill her and our son if she ever got the police involved (remember the email I mentioned earlier, she just setup a pattern). Because of her statement, I was ordered to stay away from her, our home, and worst of all, our son. After several minutes of just staring at one another, my friend said to me that he thought he heard it all, but this took the cake. She didn’t just make up a story, she made up an extreme story. At that point, we went to the nearest police station and requested an escort to go home and pick up a few personal belongings.I spent the night at my friends, up all night, trying to figure out what to do next.
